About

Welcome to Betsy Lewis’s view of Nature in New England!

Ms. Lewis began painting with oils, en plein air, in 2006 with her mentor Janis Cooper of the Copley Society Artist group. Within a year she was juried into her first Newburyport Art Association (NAA) Show. This success inspired her to enter classes and workshops with notable area instructors, expanding her painting techniques and allowing her style to flourish. While she continued to succeed in being accepted into juried shows, in 2008 she was also juried for life into the prestigious Cranes Estate Art Show and Sale in Ipswich, MA. She continues to show and sell her oil paintings at the annual Cranes Estate Art Show.

Ms. Lewis states, “My inspiration comes from the ever changing atmosphere of light, shadow and mood in New England.” This love of nature prompted her to further explore painting with watercolor as a medium in lieu of oils. She enjoys watercolor painting and has found them to be a more portable medium for painting en plein air. She started selling her watercolors in 2018 along with her oil paintings.

In 2010 the NAA recognized Ms. Lewis’s work and offered her first solo show at the Newburyport Art Association Wings Gallery. Additionally, she hung and sold her work from 2007 to 2017 with the Band of Brushes en plein air group at the NAA. Other exhibitions include the Seacoast Art Association (SAA) at the Exeter Town Hall and the SAA Gallery, as an Associate Member of the North Shore Gallery Art.  In 2018 she began exhibiting her watercolors with Water Color Interest Group (WIG) at the NAA and other area venues.

Ms. Lewis has been a member of several area art associations and hung in several of their shows. Currently she holds a membership in the Seacoast Art Association of Exeter, NH and the Watercolor Interest Group of Newburyport, MA.

Ms. Lewis has the honor of being selected as an artist showing in the Great Bay Stewards show for 2019. She will exhibit her work in the Amesbury Cultural Council’s Art Studio Open House and the 14 Cedar Street Open House this spring and next November. Her work is available for view and sale by appointment in her studio at 14 Cedar Street, Suite 207b, Amesbury MA.
